garden gate flower company cornwall

The Garden Gate Company are to me the epitome of elegance, simplicity and wild beauty.

As a long term admirer of their gorgeous work, I’m thrilled to share this post from Becca and Maz introducing their brilliant ‘ready to wear’ floral offering…

We are Becca and Maz, the creative duo behind the garden gate flower company.  Our passion for design and creating beautiful events is coupled with our passion for seasonality and plants.

We grow our flowers organically on Becca’s family farm near Fowey, in Cornwall.  We use carefully chosen, beautiful flowers to design wild and natural arrangements which reflect the seasons and your style.   Because we grow our own, the flowers and foliage we use is always ‘just picked’.  We grow unusual and delicate flowers you just can’t find ‘on-the-high-street’.  We are always interested in hearing your ideas and weaving these together with our flowers to create individual, natural, wild and wonderful arrangements for weddings across Cornwall and beyond.

We started to call our pick-up service ‘ready-to-wear’ a few years ago because the concept really fit with what we try to achieve with this service.  We use all the same flowers, and provide the same quality of bouquets as with our bespoke delivery weddings.  The difference is that this is a collection service.  We package up your flowers beautifully for you to collect the day before your wedding.

We make all the bridal party flowers and use the same beautiful organic plant dyed silk ribbons that we use when we attend an event.  Because this service is to be collected from the farm then we package them up for you to tie on later.

We will make a bridal bouquet, up to 3 bride’s maids and 8 buttonhole flowers, complete with pin..  You can choose our colours within a range, and we will always use what is looking good at that day to make the freshest, prettiest bouquets out there.  These come with instructions about how to care for your flowers over the next 24 hours.  This doesn’t involve anything difficult, just keeping them cool and watered.

We also provide two buckets for you to make up your own venue flowers too.  This is enough for you to fill vases, jars or bottles, enough to fill most wedding venues in Cornwall with a little flower magic.  This is a fantastic opportunity to spend time with your wedding guests and get creative.  Working with flowers is always a real joy, and will help you find a moment of calm the night before your wedding.

The size about is a little flexible too, so get in touch if you want to jig numbers about a bit.  We find that this is approximately the amount most people can easily fit into their car without damaging the flowers.  They need space as their heads don’t cope well with all the bends in those Cornish lanes!

The benefits of this service mean that you don’t need to pay our delivery or break-down fee, and, because you pick up we can sometimes fit in a ‘ready to wear’ alongside another wedding.  So, we have more dates for this service than we do with delivery and styled weddings.

So.  Once you have booked this service, decided how many bridesmaids you want and organised who will collect the flowers, punched our postcode into your sat nav.  You might want to think about collecting some vessels, and a little bit of styling.

Social media is fab for ideas, but don’t get too carried away! Often, once the food and drink in on the table there isn’t much space for much else.  We don’t use floristry foam and our flowers aren’t much suited to it, we are organic and it is not biodegradable so it goes against our ethos a bit too, so we recommend not using it.

We have had some beautiful pictures back from brides who have used just plain glass jars and others who have collected vintage cut glass or vintage bottles.  We often have bride’s whose relatives cut from their garden to add to the mix.  Depending on the time of year you can add cow parsley from the hedgerows, find beautiful grasses that other’s might consider ‘weeds’, or add foliage from the hedge in your garden.  Small pots of herbs or lavender, or strawberry plants work well too.

And when you pick up your flowers… you get to have a sneaky-peak over the gate at the cutting garden too!
