James & Tamsin’s Coombe Trenchard wedding
James and Tamsin got married at the stunning Coombe Trenchard, a wedding venue only dreams are made of.
What a wonderful day they had, all perfectly captured by Alexa Poppe…

James proposed in our home village under a clump of trees up on a the hill near our house. On our Christmas day (the Saturday before the actual Christmas day). It was a complete surprise – he snuck champagne into a bag then made an excuse as to why he was taking a bag on a short walk!
Where it all happened
All at Coombe Trenchard, because it is an astonishingly beautiful venue, with fantastic hosts in the countryside near where Tamsin grew up.
What they wore
James wore a Ted baker two piece suit, charcoal with light checked pattern. All ties from TM Lewin. Tamsin’s dress was Jenny Packham (Esme) – a 1920’s style dress. Bridesmaids dresses from Maids to Measure. Groomsmen suits – various!
Theme and Flowers
The theme was pastels, with bridesmaids dresses also being chosen in those colours.
All flowers were cut the day before from the grounds of Coombe Trenchard. They were then prepared together by Tamsin, her mother and sister with Sarah’s guidance.
We had afternoon tea as the wedding breakfast, and a cheese cake later on from Country Cheeses, Tavistock, with delicious Yarg and other cheeses! (Tam used to pick the nettles for Yarg).
What they ate and drank
Coombe Trenchard, Thirst Choice, and Buen Appettito (Paella) provided our food and drink for the day.
Rather than canapés we had posh popcorn and crisps with post ceremony drinks. Our Champagne Afternoon Tea consisted of Bollinger and Sarah’s homemade delights – we were so happy with Sarah’s amazing afternoon tea – better than any we’ve ever had.
Later on Paella, then cheese cake.

Immediately after the wedding we had a few days in Newlyn, in the deep south west of Cornwall. Then home for one night, before heading to Sri Lanka for a couple of weeks. We travelled around the whole island with our own fantastic driver Mohan. It was all incredibly relaxing and easy. All organised by the brilliant Invite to Paradise – Sri Lanka specialists. Highly recommend them (Reese and the team).

Advice to others
Try on your suit a month before to check for fit! Book the suppliers as early as possible in advance. Shop around, use a venue like Coombe Trenchard where you’re not captive and have some freedom on which suppliers to choose.
Anything else to add?
Enjoy the day! Don’t invite too many – I think our 70 was perfect. Don’t faff about too long taking posed photos, use all the time to be with your guests. Make sure there are enough drinks for mens and woman tastes! (Not all beer!)
