Love, love love Charlotte and Luke’s Dartmoor Lodge wedding, so full of smiles, love and laughter. Big thanks to bride Charlotte for sending over their wedding story while still on honeymoon! Now that’s commitment.
Over to Charlotte to tell you all about their day, with gorgeous images by the fabulous Memories & Milestones…
Luke proposed to me by taking me to London for my 21st birthday. And while we were there, went for a walk in Hyde park, got down on one knee under a secluded wooden bandstand and asked me to marry him.
Where it all happened
The Dartmoor Lodge Hotel, Ashburton. We chose this venue because it was so chilled out and we wanted everything just to be fun for everyone. Rather than it be a regimented routine. The owners were so flexible with the packages and all of the staff were fantastic!!
What they wore
My dress was from The Wedding Company in Plympton, Plymouth. The bridesmaids dress’ were also from here and the men’s suits were from the grooms room, in the same shop.
We wanted simple and summery. The colour we had was wild berry. Which we picked because it was such a summery colour and very flattering on all of my girls. We then accompanied all of the colours with gypsophila which was nice and simple but beautiful.
Our florist was Simply Flowers based in Bovey Tracey. I had a mixture of so many flowers which matched my wild berry theme along with gypsophila bouquets for all of the bridesmaids to go with the vibrant colour of their dresses.
Our cake was simple but very gorgeous 4 tiers of deliciousness. We had fruit cake, lemon drizzle , Victoria sponge and death by chocolate!! Each tier was a different combination of shimmer and pink and ivory lace and pearl effect. My mum’s friend made it for us and hand made all of the flowers to match my bouquet.
What they ate and drank
The venue supplied all of our food for the day. We had a sit down meal which included options of lamb, chicken, salmon along with cheesecake creme brûlée and sticky toffee pudding!
We chose this because we love a good sit down meal so why would our wedding be any different?? And we had a buffet in the evening including pasties and sandwiches and lots of our cake!!
Memories and Milestones were our photographers! Jen and Mel were just fantastic!! Making us feel so at ease with having our photo taken( which we’re not used to at all). We had games on the tables to everyone to take photos of (like someone you don’t know, clinking of glasses etc).
We had live entertainment in the form of The Swing Kings – they had everyone up dancing and did 2 hour long sets with dj in between!
Our honeymoon was in riviera maya, Mexico. I am currently sat on the beach while writing this! We’re here on a two week honeymoon.
We flew out on the 18th of July so we could have a couple of days to get sorted!
Favourite part of the day
My favourite part was going around to all of my guests at the tables after the meal and seeing how much everyone was enjoying themselves. Just watching them have a great time was worth all of the effort.
Advice to others
Try and not let the little things bother you, don’t worry about things that you can’t control. Don’t let anyone make you do something that you don’t want to (or not let you do something you want to do).
Remember it’s all about you and your partner. And be honest and open about everything you expect from everyone.
On the day – take 5 mins away from everything with your new wife/husband. Just to make sure you take it all in. We had the perfect day and nothing went wrong at all. Just don’t let the little things dictate how you feel about a big day!!
