So, we have all these amazing wedding suppliers across Cornwall and Devon, and we love what they do. But who are the people behind all these wonderful services? Where do they get their inspiration from? What makes them tick? What would their dream wedding look like? And, most importantly, what would their superhero power be?
Let’s find out!
This new series of posts is dedicated to finding out more about the people behind the businesses. We’re kicking off today with someone I discovered through Instagram (a fabulous source of inspiration – follow us @pastiesandpetticoats if you’re on there!).
Thrashion (@thrashion on instagram) offers unique recycled skateboard jewellery. Yep, you heard it right. Jewellery from skateboards. And it’s awesome!
Earrings, rings, cufflinks, tie clips, shirt studs, belt buckles and more – the colourful striped wood against silver makes for a pretty bold and beautiful combo, just as perfect worn by the bride and groom or given to best men and bridesmaids as thank you gifts.
But enough of my wittering, let’s meet Nat from Thrashion…
So. Thrashion – who’s behind it? Give us the low down!
It’s purely down to me. I design, make and produce the collections and do all the necessary other things like managing the website, projects, accounts, etc. The whole shebang really!
It’s a pretty unique business idea, how did you come up with it?
I was already making jewellery and have always been a bit crafty, I was in my attic and tripped up over our old skateboard decks, we kept all of them from the 1990’s onwards (me and my husband both skate). It was a bit of a lightbulb moment really. I started off using hand tools and slowly built the business up to what it is now, which still has a very DIY ethic but is more geared towards the high end market.
My jewellery has developed A LOT in the last 7 years and its almost embarrassing to look at some of my old designs!
What was the first product you made from a recycled skateboard, and do you still offer that in your range now?
My first product was a bangle from my husbands old deck, which was I believe a Fracture. It was purple and green. I got so many comments about it, mainly because of the colours.
What’s your best-selling item?
My studs are very popular but also my cufflinks are very popular at the moment, it does depend on the season
What’s your favourite item?
Ooh that’s a hard one, to be honest once I’ve designed a range and made it I’m always looking for the next thing! At the moment my favourite thing is the leather bracelet because it can go with everything, formal to casual, and is a unisex design but also fits children.
If you were a superhero, what would be your super power?
I’d like to be superskilled, and athletic and be able to learn things super-quick, also indestructible so I wouldn’t keep breaking my legs!
Fantasy wedding time – if you were wedding planning with unlimited budget and options…
Where would it take place?
On a Cornish beach, probably Prussia Cove
Who would be your wedding band?
Sex Pistols or PIL (John Lydon is a musical genius!)
What would you and your guests eat and drink?
Pasties and pints
If you could invite ONE famous person to be your guest, who would it be and why?
Thank you Nat for giving us a little insight into the world of Thrashion.
We love what you do!
