south west wedding awards wedding media winner

I am, quite frankly, utterly gobsmacked to be writing this. But on Friday night I attended the SWWA gala dinner as a very proud finalist in the wedding media category, and somehow came home with the award!

All dressed up and ready to go!

Given that we didn’t give acceptance speeches (thank goodness, I dread to think what I’d have blurted out in my state of shock!), I wanted to take this opportunity to ramble a little…

Pasties & Petticoats has come a very long way in the past twelve months. Making the decision to make this my ‘job’ (I always feel like a fraud calling it that because I love it so much!) was the best thing I ever did. With a big re-brand and relaunch with a beautiful new website in January 2016, I’ve worked really hard over the past year to build my vision.

High five to the organisers, what a fabulous night!

I always wanted Pasties & Petticoats to have personality. To be about more than just churning out content and taking advertising money, but about real life, building relationships, honesty. I think that it’s all to easy to see glamorous fashion shoots and raise expectations of a wedding day until the pressure becomes immense. I want to share love stories, not wedding days styled to within an inch of their lives with no evidence of love or emotion. Likewise, I want to build a pretty and effective platform for our amazing local suppliers to shout about their work, to build mutually supportive working relationships with them.

The feedback I’ve had from both readers and suppliers gives me confidence that I’m heading in the right direction and achieving what I set out to do. It’s not always easy, and I know an award shouldn’t make such a difference, but it really does. I feel so proud to have won, especially with some amazing finalists sharing the category – a big shout out to Bespoke Bride Guide who do an incredible job and I totally thought would have it in the bag!

The lovely Tara from The Bridal Studio in Helston – chauffeur and cheerleader extraordinaire!

Having this award really does mean such a lot. It’s validation of all my hours sat at my dining table with my little laptop, tapping away wondering whether anyone actually reads my ramblings! 🙂

Aside from my own win, it was brilliant to see so many other Cornwall and Devon suppliers bringing home the glassware! A big congratulations to them and all the finalists. The awards cover Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset so just to have been in that room is an incredible accolade.

On Wednesday I will be moving the Pasties & Petticoats HQ into a proper, real life office. And my pretty award will have pride of place!! I have SO many plans for the next twelve months and I can’t wait to share the journey with you all.

So THANK YOU – to my readers, sponsors and cheerleaders. The people who find inspiration in my posts, the businesses who entrust me with their hard earned marketing budgets to help spread their word, and the family and friends who tirelessly support me, listen to me rave about my next idea and are always there to lend an ear.  This award isn’t really mine, it’s yours! Thank you!
